Patient story

Melanie Whitesides

I went to Sacred Heart Medical Hospital on May 7th, 2008 for a heart catheterization. My heart failed and I almost died because my pressures were so high. I already knew that I probably had PH just because I am a nurse and I had been looking online. They started me on Flolan the same day.

Luckily, they changed my medication to Remodulin a week later. I was in the hospital for two weeks, mostly because of the insurance company.

I am at home now. I am retired at this point. I think I am at stage two or three. I feel okay right now. Just have side effects from the medication. In the past, I have had three open heart surgeries and two strokes. I think I am lucky to be alive at this point.

I know what everyone with PH is going through...been there, not done with it yet!
