"Swing 4 The Cure" Golf Tournament
On the Green: Creating Awareness, Building
Community and Raising funds for A Cure
The "Swing 4 the Cure" Wojo Golf Classic was organized
by Betty Lou Wojciechowski and her daughter Michelle
Sweitzer and son Mark in memory of Jerry “Wojo”
Wojciechowski who lost his 13-year battle with PH in
2007. Jerry had familial PH, and Betty Lou and Jerry had
previously lost two sons – Matthew and Michael – to
the disease.
The tournament, held in Dana Point, Calif., in late
July, was one way the Wojo family continues to fight back
against this illness. It was a great memorial tribute to
Jerry and his sons. Betty Lou and Michelle’s goals were
to build community, expand local awareness of PH and
raise funds for research. By those standards – with
almost 100 volunteers involved, strong sponsorship and
80 golfers – the event was a great success. The silent
auction and raffle table were described as “overflowing
with donations” as so many people wanted to contribute
to the event.
