Medicare open enrollment, also called annual enrollment, has begun and continues through Dec. 7. During open enrollment, all Medicare participants have the opportunity to change Medicare plans or add or drop coverage. Outside of the open enrollment period, there are not many opportunities for current Medicare participants to change their coverage.
Medicare plans may adjust which medications and services are covered from one plan year to the next, so open enrollment offers an opportunity for people with pulmonary hypertension to review their health insurance options and prepare for anticipated changes in their coverage needs.
A variety of resources are available to help navigate the plan selection process during Medicare open enrollment:
- www.Medicare.gov offers plan finder tools and general information about Medicare open enrollment.
- The Patient Advocate Foundation offers one-on-one assistance to review and choose plan options. Call 800-532-5274 or visit their case management web portal.
- The Pulmonary Hypertension Association’s (PHA’s) Online Insurance Guide includes questions to consider when selecting Medicare coverage.
- PHA offers two videos about Medicare: Will Medicare Cover My PH Medications? and Understanding Medicare.
