The Detroit pulmonary hypertension (PH) community raised $6,795 for the Pulmonary Hypertension Association O2breathe walk on May 6. About 30 attended.

The event at River Bends Park in Shelby Charter Township brought together people with PH, their families, friends and health care professionals. The event featured Tammera Tubolino of Kristy’s Prayer Warriors, who recounted her sister’s CTEPH journey. Tammera expressed her family’s deep appreciation for the community, which helped Kristy through her PH challenges.

The event also featured longtime support group leader Carla Kinsey, who reminded participants of the value of support group meetings. Attendees took part in a short walk, celebrating the accomplishments of those with PH and the support of the community.

The top fundraising team, Team Candace: We are PHA-mily, led by Candace Learman, raised $2,800. The second- and third-place teams were Kristy’s Prayer Warriors and Mark’s PHighters for PHA, both of which had a great showing of family and friends at the event.

The top three individual fundraisers were Candace Learman, Tammera Tubolino and Susan Zucal.

Community events are among the many ways the PH community raises money to support PHA. The proceeds support our mission to extend and improve the lives of those affected by PH.

Our next PHA fundraiser is the Greater Washington, D.C., O2breathe Walk in Alexandria, Virginia, on May 13.
