Do you or a loved one have pulmonary hypertension and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis? Join the Pulmonary Hypertension Association at 3 p.m. ET Friday, Sept. 15, for a national support group meeting. Connect with others and get tips for living with PH and PF.
Pulmonary fibrosis is an interstitial lung disease, which is related to the network of tissue that supports air sacs in the lungs. There are many types of interstitial lung diseases, with various causes. Idiopathic PF is caused by damage or scarring of the tissue surrounding the air sacs. The damage makes it harder for oxygen to transfer from air sacs into the bloodstream.
The risk for developing PH depends on the type of interstitial lung disease. About a third of the people with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis develop PH.
