We are saddened at the passing of our friend and supporter James “Jim” Ryan.

Last month, Mr. Ryan received the 2018 PHA Philanthropy Award at PHA’s International Conference and Scientific Sessions. In receiving his award, Mr. Ryan spoke of his dear wife Marlene who passed away in 2016 after living with pulmonary hypertension for five years. Like many patients and caregivers, the Ryan’s entry into the PH community was swift but they found resources and a connection through PHA to help them live with PH. After Mr. Ryan was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension two years ago, he developed a strong passion for advancing PHA’s mission and finding a cure for PH.

Mr. Ryan founded Market Finders Insurance Corporation, headquartered in Louisville, in 1972. An insurance wholesaler specializing in surplus lines and hard-to-place risks, the company also has two branch offices in Franklin, OH and Greenville, SC. Having worked in the industry for five decades, Mr. Ryan served as Chairman of the Board of Directors until his passing. Instrumentally active in the insurance industry, he served as President of the American Association of Managing General Agents, President of the Kentucky Surplus Lines Association, President of Kentucky Lloyd’s Agent Association, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Professional Surplus Lines Officers.

Jim meant so much to PHA and passionately supported our mission. Please join us in a warm and grateful tribute to his life of service.
