On Monday, January 15, 2018, President Trump signed into law the Recognize, Assist, Include, Support and Engage (RAISE) Family Caregivers Act calling for a national strategy to address the needs of family caregivers. This bipartisan legislation directs the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to develop and make publicly available a National Family Caregiving Strategy that identifies recommended actions for recognizing and supporting family caregivers in a manner that reflects their diverse needs. HHS will convene a Family Caregiving Advisory Council to advise the department on recognizing and supporting family caregivers through resources addressing various issues from work force flexibility to education and respite services for caregivers. The RAISE Family Caregivers Act was a key legislative priority of the National Alliance for Caregiving.
