Actor and rapper Awkwafina will compete Aug. 26 on “Who Wants To Be a Millionaire” for the chance to donate $1 million to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association. The star-studded television show pairs celebrities who compete for a charity of their choice.

Awkwafina was just 4 years old when her mother died of pulmonary hypertension in 1992. There were no FDA-approved medical treatments for PH until epoprostenol (Flolan) was approved in 1995.

Winning lots of money might be a natural role for Awkwafina, who starred in the 2024 comedy “Jackpot!” She played the role of Katie, a former child actor who wins a $3.6 billion lottery but has to survive until sundown to claim her prize. The dystopian action comedy features actors Awkwafina, John Cena and Simu Liu.

“Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” reunites the Asian American star with “Jackpot!” director Paul Fieg in an episode airing Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

The series, which features different celebrity pairs every week with host Jimmy Kimmel, launches its 2026 season on July 22.
