Thanks to the dedication of PHA advocates and other patient organizations, the Supplemental Oxygen Access Reform Act was introduced in the House of Representatives March 26.
Rep. David Valadao (R-Calif.) introduced the bill, joined by three co-sponsors, Reps. Julia Brownley (D-Calif.), Larry Bucshon (R-Ind.), and Adrian Smith (R-Neb.). An identical bill has been introduced in the Senate.
To continue momentum for the bills and other PH-related legislation, Pulmonary Hypertension Association CEO Matt Granato and Katie Kroner, vice president of advocacy and patient engagement, visited the offices of several members of Congress on Tuesday, April 2.
“Through legislative advocacy, the Pulmonary Hypertension Association advances lasting solutions to problems like oxygen access that impact patients’ everyday wellbeing,” Granato says.
Many people living with pulmonary hypertension can’t access the type, quantity or flow rate of supplemental oxygen their prescribing clinician recommends. The SOAR Act would increase flexibility for Medicare coverage of oxygen and related equipment. If passed, the legislation would allow people with pulmonary hypertension to more easily access the right type of oxygen treatment to improve their quality of life.
