More than 10,000 runners gathered in Chicago to participate in the Lifetime Half Marathon on Sept. 28. Among them were Pulmonary Hypertension Association colleagues Sophia Donis (pictured right) and Jenny Errico (left), who ran side-by-side along Lake Michigan and historic Jackson Park to raise awareness for pulmonary hypertension.

The pair raised $1,155 for PHA’s programs and services. Beyond fundraising, their run reflected the heart of PHA’s mission to spread hope and support the PH community.

“This race was a celebration and reflection of all we’re able to accomplish and fight through as humans,” Errico said. “Life is full of a lot of pain, especially if you’re living with a chronic condition like PH, so any time you’re able to push your limits or enjoy those victories no matter how small, it can be really powerful. This race felt very empowering for me and I’m thankful and proud of what my body was able to accomplish.”

Each mile, the colleagues celebrated with a high five and smile to lift their spirits and persevere.

“The race was genuinely the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” Donis said. “Running a half marathon was something I never thought I would cross off my bucket list and I’m incredibly proud of myself. I’m very grateful for the support from my family, friends and colleagues.”

Now that they’ve crossed the finish line, Donis is looking forward to participating in the 19.3-mile Springtime Surprise Challenge at Walt Disney World in April 2026. Errico plans to explore new fitness outlets such as yoga, strength training and Zumba.

Both Donis and Errico are first-time fundraisers and were proud to support the PH community and further PHA’s mission.

“This race was a nice example for supporters who might be considering how they can raise awareness or money for PHA,” said Courtney Durham, director of development at PHA.
