A decade after PHA began accrediting pulmonary hypertension care centers, our accreditation program has grown significantly. The most recent issue of Pathlight explores three programs: an established comprehensive care center outside of the nation’s capital, a newly accredited program in Texas and a soon-to-be accredited program in Vermont. The article shows how the PHCC program increases access to dedicated PH care.

“Commitment to Quality PH Care” is just one of the many invaluable articles in the first quarter 2024 issue. Several articles look ahead at PHA International PH Conference and Scientific Sessions, including tips for traveling with oxygen, eight fun reasons to visit Indianapolis and insight from past attendees.

Other articles report inspirational patient stories and tips for health and wellness. These articles and more are available only in Pathlight, our quarterly print magazine exclusively for Pulmonary Hypertension Association members.

Here’s a look at three must-reads in this issue:

In “Stagestruck,” Steve Smith of Colorado takes us behind the scenes of performing with PH. Smith, who has loved to sing since his youth, continues to do what he loves through community theater. “I always assumed my limitations would stop me from doing what I love, but not yet,” says Smith, who was diagnosed in 2018.

In “Physician as Patient,” Ann Socolofsky of South Dakota recounts how she continues to practice medicine while coaching women to manage life-threatening illnesses like PH. “When I was diagnosed … I had to change my work situation immediately because I couldn’t do the typical on-call regimen that most practices expected. This was before telemedicine and other flexible opportunities for physicians, so I … created a specialty practice and explored new opportunities.”

“In Connection and Support Through Gaming,” three people affected by PH describe how video and online gaming helps them cope with chronic pain and serious illness. They share how gaming enriches their lives and fits into their care plans. “I don’t ever want to lose the magic of childhood that lives in my heart,” says Carla Kinsey of Michigan.
