Jude Moutchia, a senior health data scientist from the University of Pennsylvania, is the 2025 recipient of PHA’s Health Disparities in PH Research award. His project, Epidemiology and Treatment Heterogeneity of PAH in the U.S., examines treatment effectiveness, systemic manifestations of pulmonary arterial hypertension and biomarkers that influence patient outcomes.

Moutchia’s research applies advanced statistical methods and machine learning to large datasets, including the Pulmonary Hypertension Association Registry, to uncover new insights into pulmonary hypertension.

By improving the design and interpretation of clinical trials and leveraging real-world data, his research can help identify more effective PH therapies and expand understanding of how PH affects patients beyond the lungs.

“This work is critical for advancing precision medicine and addressing health disparities in pulmonary hypertension,” says Elizabeth Joseloff, vice president, quality care and research, PHA.

Moutchia earned his medical degree at the University of Buea, Cameroon, and a double master’s degree in public health and biostatistics at the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, and EHESP School of Public Health, France. He also completed a master’s degree in health informatics at the University of North Texas. Moutchia works in the pulmonary vascular disease program at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, where he uses advanced data processing and analysis techniques to promote evidence-based medicine.
