As the Pulmonary Hypertension Association continues its celebration of Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness Month, PHA wraped up its O2breathe Walks for 2024. The walks raised more than $200,000 this year to spread awareness and support PHA’s mission. Learn about the last three walks of the year:
El Paso, Texas
On Saturday, Nov. 2, the El Paso pulmonary hypertension community gathered for its second annual PHA O2breathe Walk. The walk raised $2,595 in memory of Lauren Thompson, a member of PHA’s El Paso support group, and Claudia Fierro, the first leader of the support group.
The event’s top fundraising teams were Estella’s Stars, Texas Tech PCCM and TTUHSC-Transmountain. The top fundraising participants were Carla Thompson, David Thompson and Phil Banks.
Monrovia, California
Also on Nov. 2, the Monrovia PH Community hosted the 11th annual Monrovia O2breathe Walk at the Monrovia Public Library. The walk memorializes its founder, Joannie Yuille. This year, the event raised $1,619.
The event’s top fundraising teams were Team Lutz, We Walk for Life and A Tribe Called PH. The top fundraising participants were Corey Lutz, Sharon Morris and Barara Gholar.
Dallas
The final O2breathe walk of the year was Saturday, Nov. 9, at Haggard Park in Plano, Texas. People with PH gathered with their family, friends and health care professionals in the Dallas area for a mile or 5-kilometer walk. The event raised $15,720.
The event’s top fundraising teams were BSW Friends, PHabulous UTSW PH Providers and Friends and Linda’s Impossible Dream. The top fundraising participants were Linda Taylor, Pam York and Audra Armstrong.
Join us in DC
PHA’s final fundraising event of the year, Christmas Time is Here, will be at the Creative Cauldron in Falls Church, Virginia, on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m. If you’re in the Washington, D.C., area, join Stephen Carter-Hicks, person with PH and former Broadway star, for a night of secular and sacred Christmas songs in an intimate cabaret setting. Carter-Hicks will be accompanied by Howard Breitbart at the piano, Virgil Night on bass and percussionist Jeanie Broderick. Buy tickets on the Creative Cauldron website.
