As PHA marks its 35th anniversary, early PHA leaders recall the challenges and successes of PHA’s first conference in the June issue of Pathlight. “It was really very sophisticated for the time,” cardiologist Bruce Brundage recalls. “A lot of bright people who just happened to be impacted by PH came together, and the chemistry worked.”
The chronicle of PHA’s first conference – and a preview of PHA 2026 International PH Conference and Scientific Sessions – are just two of the articles in the current issue of Pathlight magazine. The quarterly magazine is free to members online and through the mail.
Here are a few highlights of the current issue:
PHA Volunteer Ready With a Texas Welcome
Audra Armstrong of Forney, Texas, is a member of the welcome committee for PHA 2026 International PH Conference and Scientific Sessions. Armstrong, 55, was a caregiver for her mom, Patricia Reeves Sneed, who was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension in 2016 and died a year later. “I enjoy giving back to others so I joined PHA’s Dallas Support Group in 2018.
Embracing the Call To Live Fully
Sawanda Cornett, a medical records auditor at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, celebrates 22 years of life with PH. She finds joy in her family, especially her twin sister, cruises, church and keeping busy. Cornett recently shared her story for PHA’s spring fundraising campaign.
How PH Challenges Fueled My Advocacy Journey
Maurita Andrews lives in Washington state with her husband and their two sons. An advocate for the Supplemental Oxygen Access Reform Act, she participated in PHA’s 2025 Hill Day with her son Nolan. “I look at advocacy as something not just for myself, but for everyone else living with PH.”
