The Pulmonary Hypertension Association is hosting its first PHPN Day of Action on Thursday, Sept. 18, during the PH Professional Network Symposium.
Set for Sept. 18-20, the PHPN Symposium takes place in a new location for the first time, so the advocacy event won’t be on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. In Seattle, the PHPN Day of Action consists of an advocacy training workshop and a community engagement project.
Advocacy training
Participants can learn to be voices for patients in the advocacy workshop. Jaeger Spratt, PHA’s advocacy and treatment access program manager, will lead a one-hour training session that reviews the legislative process, PHA’s priority bills and how to be involved in PHA’s advocacy efforts.
After Spratt’s presentation, attendees will call or email members of Congress to ask for support improved access to supplemental oxygen.
Attendees can sign up for one of two workshop sessions when they register for the symposium. Limited space is available in each session.
Community engagement
Before or after the advocacy workshop, attendees can participate in the community engagement project. PHA started the service projects at PHA 2024 International Conference and Scientific Sessions in Indianapolis so attendees could give back to the host community.
This year, health care professionals will work together to build toys for pets at animal shelters. No prior sign-up is needed to participate.
Themed “Igniting the PHight: Looking to the Future,” the PHPN Symposium will gather more than 500 health care professionals to learn the latest in PH research, treatment and care. Attendees also can earn continuing education credits. Register for the symposium and sign up for the advocacy workshop.
