Health care professionals: As you plan for PHA’s PH Professional Network Symposium, consider attending a featured session on multidisciplinary care teams.

Speakers from four PHA-accredited PH Care Centers will discuss how they manage their multidisciplinary care teams, address challenges and support growth and development of their teams.

The session is set for Sept. 19, on the second day of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association’s biennial event for PH-treating professionals. The PH Professional Network Symposium runs from Sept. 18 through 20, in Seattle.

A follow-up session from the 2023 PHPN Symposium, “Foundation of a Successful Care Team: Part II” features Stephanie Handler, Neelam Bhatt, Juliana Liu, Laura Nowicki and Allyson Rupp, who will moderate the presentation.

Handler is an associate professor of pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin. As a member of the PH team at Children’s Wisconsin, Handler’s clinical and research interests include pediatric pulmonary hypertension, particularly patients with complex and single-ventricle congenital heart disease.

Bhatt is a lung transplant and PH clinical pharmacy specialist at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. Bhatt presented “Development of a Comprehensive PH Electronic Order-set at a Large Pediatric Tertiary Care Institution” at the 2023 symposium.

Liu is program manager and nurse practitioner for the adult pulmonary hypertension program at Stanford University. She manages the PH clinic and works to improve patient care across the institution.

Nowicki is lead PH nurse coordinator at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Medical Center. She is integral in planning the annual North Carolina Research Triangle PH Symposium. Nowicki previously served on PHA’s PHCC Review Committee and is a PHA professional mentor.

Rupp is a licensed clinical social worker and complex care manager at Stanford Healthcare. Rupp evaluates people with PH and their families for psychosocial impacts of  the disease. Rupp presented “Health Care Inequalities in PH” in 2023.

Other session topics at the 2025 PHPN Symposium include:

  • Patient perspective on pulmonary hypertension.
  • Real-world use of new PH therapies.
  • Race and ethnicity’s role in PH and methamphetamine use.

Themed “Igniting the PHight: Looking to the Future,” this year’s symposium will focus on multidisciplinary care teams, emerging therapies and managing provider and caregiver burnout.
