Health care professionals: Mark your calendar for the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA)’s PH Professional Network Symposium, set for Sept. 28-30 in Arlington, Virginia.This year’s PHPN Symposium, “PHoundation for a Brighter Future,” will focus on the delivery of high quality, patient-centered care through multidisciplinary care team collaboration and the latest treatment guidelines and therapies.One of the featured sessions will be on wellness and mental health for pulmonary hypertension (PH) providers and patients. Joan Cain, M.S., FNP-BC, ACHPN and Jeffrey Lauzon, M.A., Ph.D., will address patient reaction and provider fatigue related to traumatic events, as well as trauma diagnostic criteria, prevalence rates and treatment recommendations. Their presentation also will offer tips to help patients to have control in navigating their chronic condition.Cain is a nurse practitioner and adjunct faculty member at the Medical University of South Carolina. She works with the palliative care department in an 700-bed hospital and multidisciplinary health care teams to provide excellent care.Dr. Lauzon is a licensed clinical psychologist at Aurora Health in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He develops cardiac psychology services in his post-residency fellowship and his clinical practice (inpatient and outpatient) at St. Luke’s Medical Center heart failure and abdominal transplant clinics. He works closely with PH patients through the heart clinic.Other session topics at the 2023 PHPN Symposium will include:- Best practices for effective PH care teams.
