Macitentan is a medication used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension, a type of high blood pressure in the lungs that affects heart function. Macitentan works by relaxing the blood vessels in the lungs, which decreases pressure and improves heart function.
How it’s administered
Macitentan is an oral medication given once daily.
Dosing
The 10 mg tablets are round and white with the number 10 imprinted on both sides.
- Nasal congestion
- Sore throat
- Bronchitis or airway irritation
- Headache
- Flu-like symptoms
If the student experiences shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, fever, unusual tiredness, abdominal pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or allergic reaction, seek immediate medical assistance. Headache, nasal congestion, sore throat or flu-like symptoms should be treated as advised by the student’s physician.
Additional information
The student may need to be absent from school to have mandatory blood tests every month, or every few months.
