The pulmonary hypertension (PH) community’s efforts led to an advocacy victory for people with chronic health care conditions. On Dec. 28, Congress passed the No Surprises Act, which ends surprise medical billing for out-of-network services.

PH advocates sent more than 600 messages to Congress last year about the urgent need to end surprise medical billing.

The No Surprises Act ensures in-network coverage for care provided by out-of-network clinicians at in-network facilities, as well as emergency care and air ambulance service. With these essential components signed into law, advocacy groups will build and expand patient protections to cover ground ambulance and other services.

The new year is sure to bring new challenges and new advocacy opportunities. To join PHA’s advocacy network, contact us at 301-565-3004 x749.
