The Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) has created a social media toolkit for pulmonary hypertension (PH) patients and supporters to participate in a month-long international disease awareness drive launching Friday, May 5.

PHA has partnered with its international sister organizations for Periwinkle Hearts Around the World, to raise awareness about the need for better access to care for people living with PH.

PHA has created special digital ads and memes – some featuring celebrity ambassador Terrence J and celebrity champions Traci Braxton and Chloe Temtchine – that educate people about PH and its relationship to many other rare and more common illnesses. PHA’s goal is to let people who have PH and don’t know it and those living with diseases associated with PH and their clinicians know more about PH and the many support, networking and educational resources available to them.

PH is a progressive, debilitating lung disease that can lead to death from heart failure. Common symptoms include shortness of breath, fatigue and chest pain. Consequently, PH is often misdiagnosed — for example, as asthma — leading to delays in proper diagnosis and treatment, costing patients valuable time. PH can exist alone or in association with other illnesses, including congestive heart disease, COPD, scleroderma, sickle cell and in some parts of the world, schistosomiasis, a parasitic disease carried by fresh water snails.

World Pulmonary Hypertension Day is an annual global event to raise awareness of pulmonary hypertension (PH), a severe condition affecting the lungs and heart.

On May 5, more than 80 organizations around the world will participate in World PH Day activities to raise awareness of this frequently misdiagnosed disease and celebrate the lives of people living with PH.

Show your support by using the following tools to update your social media profiles, download PH fact sheets and help raise awareness by sharing memes with PH facts that everyone should know.
