Discover new ideas for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) risk assessment at the Pulmonary Hypertension Association’s PH Professional Network Symposium.

The Sept. 28-30 event in Arlington, Virginia, will feature a session on “Balancing the Art and Science of PAH Risk Stratification,” presented by Susanne McDevitt, D.N.P., ANCP-BC and Melisa Wilson, D.N.P., ACNP, APRN-BC.

The session will cover ways balance scientific evidence with the art of appropriately sharing risk information with patients. It also will review current PAH risk stratification tools, barriers, and strategies to improve consistent risk evaluation. The session will also provide tips to discuss risk status with patients and families and highlight the important role of the pulmonary hypertension (PH) nurse clinician.

This year’s PHPN Symposium, “PHoundation for a Brighter Future,” will focus on delivering quality, patient-centered care through multidisciplinary collaboration and latest treatment guidelines and therapies.

Dr. McDevitt is a nurse practitioner in the University of Michigan’s pulmonary hypertension program. She provides comprehensive care to inpatients and outpatients and leads quality improvement and database research projects.

Dr. Wilson is the AdventHealth’s medical specialty advanced practice provider director and the pulmonary hypertension program coordinator for its advanced lung disease program in Orlando, Florida. As advanced practice provider director, she oversees 11 medical specialties.

  • Systemic Pulmonary Vasodilators in ILD patients who have PH .
  • Health Care Inequalities in PH.

The PHPN Symposium Committee will accept late-breaking abstract submissions through May 19. The committee is particularly interested in submissions that highlight personalization of care, health disparities and treatment access, transition of care (to other therapies), and pediatric PH care.
