PHA Centers of Comprehensive Care

History

The PH program at Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) was founded in 2006 by Dr. Srinivas Murali, who recruited Dr. Raymond Benza from the University of Alabama to lead the program in 2008. Dr. Benza formalized and grew the clinical program, as well as the clinical trial and translational research programs. AGH offers a complete array of cardiovascular services for PAH patients and they are evaluated by a multi-disciplinary team of providers in the outpatient setting, including nurse coordinators, nutritionists, pharmacists, physician extenders and physicians. Our program also has extensive involvement in PAH clinical trials which may provide novel therapeutic options for our patients.

The Allegheny General Hospital PH Program includes support from a Pulmonary Hypertension principal on-call service as well as consultative support from rheumatology, congenital heart disease, cardiac anesthesia, palliative care, cardiac and liver transplantation programs and a PTE service, including pulmonary angioplasty. There is also a well-developed lung transplantation referral process as well.
