PHA Centers of Comprehensive Care

History

The Pulmonary Hypertension Center at Columbia was established in 1985, by Dr. Robyn Barst as one of the first in the country and has been under the direction of Dr. Erika Berman Rosenzweig since 2008. Over the past three decades, the Center and its faculty have been on the forefront of clinical care, research and education and genetic discovery in the field of adult and pediatric pulmonary hypertension. From participation in the very first clinical trial using continuous IV epoprostenol, the center has been involved in virtually all of the pivotal trials which have prompted FDA approval of novel therapies for PAH, as well as landmark PH genetic discoveries. More recently, the Center has adopted a Multidisciplinary Model to incorporate a broad range of services to meet all their patients’ needs. This includes a joint Medical and Surgical team to enable smooth coordination of services.

Dr. Berman Rosenzweig is the Columbia University principal investigator in the NIH-funded Pulmonary Vascular Disease Omics (PVDOMICS) consortium.
