PHA Centers of Comprehensive Care

The Pulmonary Hypertension Program at Henry Ford Hospital was established in 1997 and was designated a Center for Comprehensive Care by the PHA in 2017. The Program serves as a regional referral center, providing advanced subspecialty care with a compassionate, patient-centered approach. Dr. Rana Awdish serves as the Director and Dr. Sara Hegab serves as Associate Director of the multi-disciplinary team. The team includes a PhD clinical pharmacist dedicated to the care of PH patients, as well as an advanced heart failure trained cardiologist. The PH team works collaboratively with the Henry Ford Transplant Institute and Heart and Vascular Institute to provide the full spectrum of therapies to their patients, in order to enhance patient care and improve outcomes. Both inpatient and outpatient care is provided at the Henry Ford Main Campus in Detroit. The ICU dedicated to PH and transplant patients is staffed by nurses with advanced training in PH, and PH physicians round as the primary intensivist to provide safe, expert management of PH patients in times of acute illness. The program is committed to providing access to clinical trials and has dedicated research nurses to facilitate IRB approved research. The PH nurse coordinators are dedicated to providing individualized attention and care, with a special interest in patient education.
