PHA Centers of Comprehensive Care

History

The Stanford Adult PH Program (SAPHP) was established in 1996 as a part of the lung/heart-lung transplant initiative and need for supporting PH patients seeking transplantation. Under the directorship of Dr. Ramona Doyle, the program began evaluating and medically treating PAH patients and soon formally separated from the transplant initiative. In 2000, with a generous donation from an anonymous family, The Vera Moulton Wall Center for Pulmonary Vascular Disease was established. The adult PH program was moved under the umbrella of this institute. The initial growth period for the program (2000-2006) focused on infrastructure establishment including formal outpatient clinic, inpatient admitting and rounding team, development of a clinical database, routine clinical practice algorithms, and was staffed by 2 physicians, 1 NP, 1 coordinator, 1 social worker, and 1 research nurse. The second phase of growth for the program started in 2007 under the leadership of Dr. Roham Zamanian. Presently the program has 6-7 physicians, 4 APP’s, 1 RN coordinator, 2 administrative coordinators, 3 research coordinators, 1 database manager, and 1 social worker.
