PHA Centers of Comprehensive Care

History

The Pulmonary Hypertension Program at the University of Colorado, an internationally recognized regional referral center, has been in existence for more than 25 years. Dr. David Badesch assumed leadership of the program in the early 1990s. It has become one of the world’s leading centers for clinical research and patient care, growing from 1 physician and 1 clinical research coordinator to 4 physicians, 2 nurse practitioners, 3 clinical nurses, 3-4 research coordinators, an administrative assistant, and a volunteer. An estimated 3,000-4,000 patients have been seen, with all forms of pulmonary hypertension, from an 8-state region in the Rocky Mountain West and beyond. The Pulmonary Hypertension Program is now part of the Pulmonary Vascular Disease Center, under the direction of Dr. Todd Bull, which encompasses all forms of pulmonary vascular disease, as well as a translational research program. The Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic is located in the Cardiac & Vascular Center at the University of Colorado Hospital and utilizes a specialized Pulmonary Unit in the Hospital for inpatient services.
