PHA Centers of Comprehensive Care

History

In 2014, experienced PH providers from the LSU Health Sciences Center, Tulane University School of Medicine and Louisiana Children’s Hospital joined forces to open the Comprehensive Pulmonary Hypertension Center (CPHC) at The University Medical Center to replace hospital infrastructure lost during Hurricane Katrina. The University Medical Center is a new 424-bed state-of-the-art academic medical center, situated on 34 acres in downtown New Orleans. Inpatient and outpatient facilities are located on the same campus and offer a full range of PH-specific diagnostics and therapeutics.

All physicians at the CPHC have been caring for PH patients for years, and the consolidated center has allowed them to optimize and standardize care of PH patients previously seen at the separate hospitals. The core physician group of pulmonologists, cardiologists, and rheumatologists have experience in the both the diagnosis and management of pulmonary hypertension and the diseases that complicate it. These same physicians are also actively involved in multiple research studies focused on finding better treatments for PH. The team is rounded out by respiratory therapists, social workers, dieticians, physical and occupational therapists, and clinical pharmacists.
