PHA Centers of Comprehensive Care

History

The UPMC Pulmonary Hypertension Program is a clinical collaboration between the divisions of cardiology and pulmonary and critical care medicine (PACCM). In 2015, Dr. Stephen Chan was recruited to direct the clinical and research program with Dr. Michael Mathier serving as clinical operations head. As a tertiary PH center, the UPMC PH Program primarily serves the areas of western/central Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, upstate New York, and West Virginia.

There is a large, experienced multidisciplinary team of skilled health care providers, with a strong relationship with other divisions and subspecialty programs relevant to pulmonary hypertension. These include rheumatology, hepatology, cardiothoracic surgery for pulmonary thromboendarterectomy, hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) program, sickle cell disease program, HIV medicine program, interstitial lung disease program, and the adult congenital heart disease program.
