PHA Centers of Comprehensive Care

History

The PH program at Vanderbilt University has been existence for more than 30 years. Dr. Ivan Robbins consolidated care of patients with pulmonary hypertension when he joined the faculty of Vanderbilt in 1997, establishing a dedicated pulmonary hypertension clinic. Dr. Robbins remains the director of the Pulmonary Vascular Center, which now includes 3 physicians who see patients, 2 nurse coordinators, 3 research coordinators, and an administrative assistant. Patients are seen at the Vanderbilt Medical Center, a large tertiary care hospital for diagnostic studies and inpatient admission.

The program has experience with all therapies used to treat pulmonary hypertension and close working relationships with other divisions and departments, such as adult and pediatric cardiology, radiology, and cardiac surgery. There is also a large research component, supported by several NIH grants and investigators include both basic and clinical scientists.
