PHA Centers of Comprehensive Care

History

The PH Center opened in 2002 under the leadership of Murali Chakinala, who had started seeing PH patients at the Jacqueline Maritz Lung Center during fellowship. Prior to 2002, PH patients at Washington University & Barnes-Jewish were managed diffusely by the Lung Transplant program and several other providers. Development of the PH program has concentrated patients under a cohesive group of practitioners. Over the last 12 years, the PH program has expanded with a dedicated inpatient PH service at Barnes-Jewish Hospital — staffed by a PH physician and dedicated nurse practitioner — a satellite clinic at the Barnes Jewish West County Campus. The most recent addition (and major change in the past year) is the addition of a second staff physician.
