PHA Centers of Comprehensive Care

History

The Herma Heart Center Pulmonary Hypertension Program was established in 2008. The program is directed by Edward Kirkpatrick, DO and supported by Katy Tillman, CPNP. The program is the largest multidisciplinary program of its kind in the State of Wisconsin. In partnership with Michael Earing, MD, Director of the Wisconsin Adult congenital Heart Disease Program, The Herma Heart Center Pulmonary Hypertension Program treats all causes of pulmonary hypertension in the pediatric and adolescent patient, and the adult with congenital heart disease.

The Herma Heart Center is the largest congenital heart program in the state, performing about 85-95% of the congenital heart surgeries. There are no other pediatric pulmonary hypertension programs in the state. The natural catchment area includes the upper peninsula of Michigan and parts of Illinois and Iowa. The Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin is a stand-alone pediatric academic tertiary care hospital, connected to the adult academic hospital (Froedtert, PHCC accredited). There is no age limit for patients seen at the Herma Heart Center and about 20% are ACHD/Eisenmenger patients over age 25, with some up to their 40-50s.
