2022 Focus on Pulmonary Hypertension Research

Recorded on November 15, 2022
In this recording, pulmonary hypertension experts Anna Hemnes, M.D., and Evan Brittain, M.D., M.Sc., moderate a panel discussion on the latest advances in pulmonary hypertension (PH) research.

Panelists Thenappan Thenappan, M.D., and Corey Ventetuolo, M.D., share relevant data and research advances presented at the PHA 2022 International PH Conference and Scientific Sessions in Atlanta. The expert PH panel also discuss the latest advances in PH clinical research and the potential impact on patients.

About the Speakers

Anna Hemnes, M.D.

Anna Hemnes, M.D., is among the investigators of the PVDOMICs study. She is a translational physician-scientist who researches altered metabolism in pulmonary vascular disease. She treats patients at the Vanderbilt Center for Pulmonary Vascular Disease in Nashville, Tennessee, and directs patients to clinical studies of PH treatment, diagnostic modalities in pulmonary vascular disease and new pulmonary vascular disease classifications.

Evan Brittain, M.D., M.Sc.

Evan Brittain, M.D., M.Sc., is an associate professor of medicine in the Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s cardiovascular division. His research focuses on the epidemiologic and molecular determinants of pulmonary vascular disease and right heart failure, using experimental models of disease and human cohorts. His work is supported by the American Heart Association and the National Institutes of Health.

Thenappan Thenappan, M.D.

Thenappan Thenappan, M.D., is a clinical research scholar interested in translational research in pulmonary vascular disease. During his fellowship training, he worked on redefining the epidemiology of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). His research focuses on developing new therapies for right ventricular failure associated with pulmonary vascular disease. Dr. Thenappan has published articles on pulmonary vascular disease and right ventricular function in Circulation, Circulation Research, Circulation Heart Failure, Journal of American College of Cardiology, Journal of American Medical Association, Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, European Respiratory Journal and CHEST.

Corey E. Ventetuolo, M.D., M.S.

Corey E. Ventetuolo, M.D., M.S., is an associate professor of medicine and associate chief of pulmonary, critical care and sleep at Brown University. She is medical director of the Adult Extracorporeal Life Support Program for the Lifespan Hospital System. Her work focuses on sexual dimorphism in PAH and right ventricular function, hormonal modulation as a treatment strategy, and novel methods of endotyping patients with pulmonary vascular disease. She is interested in improving quality of care for people with PH and those on extracorporeal life support. Dr. Ventetuolo is supported by the National Institutes of Health.
