Understanding Hereditary PAH and Genetic Testing

Dr. Wendy Chung discusses the basics of genetics, hereditary pulmonary arterial hypertension (HPAH) and the genetic causes of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). She explains commonly used genetic tests for pulmonary hypertension (PH) in the United States and addresses what happens during a genetic counseling session.

About the Speaker

Wendy Chung, M.D., Ph.D.
Wendy Chung, M.D., Ph.D., is a molecular geneticist with 20 years of experience in human genetic research. She has extensive experience mapping and cloning genes in humans and describing the clinical characteristics and natural history of novel genetic conditions.
Dr. Chung directs National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded research programs in human genetics of birth defects and PH along with other conditions. She leads the precision medicine resource in the Irving Institute at Columbia University.
Dr. Chung received her B.A. in biochemistry and economics from Cornell University, her M.D. from Cornell University Medical College, and her Ph.D. from The Rockefeller University.
