Children with pulmonary hypertension (PH) can apply to attend a special summer camp on Catalina Island for free.
Thanks to generous donations made in memory of Lucas Van Wormer, whose favorite place was Camp del Corazon off the coast of California, up to six campers annually will receive fully paid scholarships to attend this residential summer camp. The experience is open to children ages 7-17 who live with heart and/or lung disease.
The scholarship covers camp fees and ferry transportation from Long Beach, California, to Catalina Island. All staff will be fully vaccinated, although campers don’t need to be. Masks are required for all indoor activities, during travel, and at outdoor activities when social distancing isn’t possible.
The parents of Lucas Van Wormer hope that families affected by PH can benefit from this special camp experience scheduled Aug. 30 through Sept. 3 (Session 2). Lucas was 19 when he died of PH in March.
Registration is open, and slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Apply today, and be sure to note Lucas Van Wormer in the application.
