What is the PHA Specialty Pharmacy Advisory Board?

The Specialty Pharmacy Advisory Board (SPAB) developed from an understanding that specialty pharmacy response to patients and their families has a strong impact on patient and caregiver quality of life. The SPAB is one of the first accountability tools built by a patient association to ensure that patient voices are heard unfiltered by specialty pharmacies.

Who sits on the Advisory Board?

The Pulmonary Hypertension Association invited several patients, caregivers, nurses and physicians to sit on the Advisory Board, along with representatives of the specialty pharmacies active in the PH field and the pharmaceutical companies with whom they contract to deliver PH drugs and services. PHA feels that this combination of participants offers the best opportunity to optimize service to PH patients and their caregivers.

How does the Advisory Board work?

When patients, caregivers or medical professionals submit a concern or a compliment to the review board, this information will be used in three ways:

  1. The comment will join a database of information to help the Advisory Board understand any trends that need to be addressed. For example, if there are a considerable number of reports of a lack of helpful customer service by phone representatives at a particular specialty pharmacy, that trend may be presented to the specialty pharmacy to improve its training.
  2. If you choose to share your name and contact information, your specialty pharmacy may be able to work with you directly to resolve your concern. If you do not choose to share contact information, your anonymous comment will still be reviewed and considered by the Advisory Board.
  3. Any submitted comments, with or without identifying information, may be shared with the Advisory Board with the goal of recognizing or improving quality of service.
