Children with pulmonary hypertension (PH) can apply to attend a special summer camp on Catalina Island for free.

Thanks to generous donations made in memory of Lucas Van Wormer, up to six campers receive fully paid scholarships to attend Camp del Corazon. The residential summer camp for children 7-17 with heart and/or lung disease was his favorite place.

The scholarship covers camp fees and ferry transportation from Long Beach, California, to Catalina Island. All staff will be fully vaccinated, but campers don’t need to be. Camp del Corazon strongly encourages all who are eligible to be vaccinated prior to camp. As of publication date, masks are required for all indoor activities, during travel, and at outdoor activities when social distancing isn’t possible.

The parents of Lucas Van Wormer hope that families affected by PH can benefit from this special camp experience. There are three camp sessions in 2022: Aug. 18-22 (Session 1), Aug. 22-26 (Session 2) and Aug. 26-30 (Session 3). Lucas was 19 when he died of PH in March 2021.

Registration is open, and slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Apply today, and be sure to note Lucas Van Wormer in the application.
