Thanks to the pulmonary hypertension (PH) community for participating in this year’s PH Awareness Month Day of Action. Thanks to you, the number of signatures added to a petition for improved supplemental oxygen access doubled in November from the previous month.
This petition, hosted by the American Lung Association, asks Congress and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to change their policies so anyone who requires supplemental oxygen can access the most appropriate type for their needs.
Your participation lays important groundwork for further action by the Pulmonary Hypertension Association and partner organizations, such as the American Lung Association. By signing the petition, you helped show how supplemental oxygen access affects people who need it. You also helped ensure the PH community’s voices are counted in reform efforts before Congress.
Supplemental oxygen is crucial for many people with PH. But many oxygen suppliers no longer provide liquid oxygen, although it is the most effective form of high-flow oxygen for mobility and quality of life. Without it, many people with pulmonary hypertension can’t participate in everyday activities, and some become homebound.
Oxygen-access reform also could provide avenues for recourse when medical equipment suppliers are unresponsive or problems develop with oxygen equipment.
It’s not too late to add your name.
If you or a loved one have experienced oxygen-access challenges, you can still contribute to our advocacy efforts. Share your experience to help PHA address this challenge in 2023.
