Join the Pulmonary Hypertension Association in promoting CTEPH Awareness Day on Nov. 12. Observed on the second Wednesday of November, CTEPH Awareness Day was first launched by PHA in 2014, to raise awareness about chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, a form of pulmonary hypertension caused by old, organized blood clots in the lungs.
The observance highlights the importance of early diagnosis and treatment, since CTEPH can be overlooked or mistaken for other conditions. In most patients who have experienced a pulmonary embolism, blood thinners can restore blood flow and prevent the disease from developing. However, some people may still develop CTEPH even with treatment, and in some cases, the condition arises without a known history of blood clots. The good news is that treatments are available.
Use the resources below to raise awareness about CTEPH and learn more about its risks, symptoms, treatment options and what it’s like to live with the condition.
Key CTEPH Awareness Day activities:
-
- On Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025, PHA will host a webinar titled “Steps to an Effective CTEPH Care Plan.” The session will guide patients and families through key steps in developing a care plan for CTEPH, beginning with building a care team and understanding treatment options. A panel of experts will explain which providers are essential to a CTEPH care team and provide an overview of current treatment approaches. The webinar will be offered in both English and Spanish.
-
- Virtual support group meeting: On Tuesday, Nov. 18, PHA will host a nationwide support group for anyone living with CTEPH to share experiences and receive support. The virtual meeting will be held at 8 p.m. EST via Zoom and facilitated by a PHA support group leader. Register and receive the Zoom link through the support group meeting calendar.
