Program Description: The Burke Advanced Fellowship in Pulmonary Heart Disease at The Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School—invites applications for an advanced fellowship in pulmonary heart disease starting July 1, 2025. This training program is sponsored by the Center for Pulmonary Heart Disease at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. The position offers intensive clinical experience including evaluation and management of both inpatients and outpatients with pulmonary vascular disease and right heart dysfunction or failure. In addition, applicants are strongly encouraged to participate in a translational or clinical research program.
Applications are invited from physicians who have completed an ACGME accredited fellowship in either pulmonary and critical care medicine or cardiovascular medicine. It is designed to prepare trainees for academic careers with a focus on pulmonary heart and vascular disease. Supervision and teaching are provided by faculty from the Divisions of Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine, Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery, and Cardiology from both the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital.
The duration of the fellowship is one to two years. Clinical fellows participate in a yearlong program and are fully funded. Fellows pursuing a combined clinical and research program are expected to complete two years of training. Full funding is provided during the first and second years. Faculty will assist fellows in applying for grant funding for salary and project support during the second year of training.

Program Description: Established in 2001, the eBay Clinical Fellowship in Pulmonary Vascular Disease is a post-doctoral fellowship devoted exclusively to clinical training in pulmonary vascular disease. Equivalent experience in related areas may also be given consideration. It is designed to prepare trainees for academic careers in a subspecialty with a focus on pulmonary vascular disease. Direct supervision and teaching are provided by faculty from the Divisions of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Cardiology and Pediatric Cardiology. Additionally, Our PVD Fellows are appointed through our Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA). OPA requires that our medical postdoctoral scholars have completed their medical degree within the last 6 years.

Program Description: Based in the Washington DC area, Inova ALD Program encompasses CMS-accredited lung transplant program, PHA-accredited Comprehensive Care Pulmonary Hypertension Center including a growing CTEPH program, CFF-accredited CF/Bronchiectasis program, PFF-accredited Interstitial Lung Disease Referral Center and WASOG Sarcoidosis Center of Excellence. The fellowship program welcomed its first fellow in 2016.
A board certified/board eligible PGY-7 pulmonary/critical care physician will have unique and expert training in a variety of advanced lung diseases including a spectrum of ILD, all forms of PH including CTEPH, sarcoidosis, CF/bronchiectasis, and lung transplantation. Fellows will receive training in the evaluation and management of advanced lung diseases, lung donors, transplant candidates and lung transplant recipients. Clinical responsibilities include inpatient rounding on dedicated lung transplantation and ALD services (including ICU management and ECMO), outpatient clinical rotations, bronchoscopies, and electives based on individual career goals. In addition to clinical responsibilities, there are multiple opportunities for translational clinical research, scholarly activities including presentations at various monthly conferences as well as teaching of UVA medical students, internal medicine residents and pulmonary/critical care fellows from the Greater Washington DC and VA academic institutions.

In this fellowship, trainees will gain extensive experience in the diagnosis, assessment and management of PH/PVD. Program Description: The UCLA Pulmonary Vascular Disease Program would like to welcome applications for an advanced fellowship in Pulmonary Vascular Disease. This 1-year non-ACGME fellowship, at one of the largest programs in the country, provides comprehensive training in the diagnosis and management of all forms of pulmonary vascular disease, including pulmonary arterial hypertension and acute and chronic thromboembolic disease.
All board-eligible or board-certified cardiologists and pulmonologists are eligible to apply.
Overall fellowship details are included below, but the UCLA PVD fellowship emphasizes an individualized and flexible program (in addition to core training) which will be tailored to suit the clinical and research interests of the trainee.
At UCLA, the advanced PVD fellow will benefit from exposure to:
- Nationally and internationally renowned experts in PH, PE, CTEPH, interventional radiology, pulmonology, physiology, and cardiology
- A very large population of patients with all forms of PH and PAH with very busy research program (17 open clinical trials for PVD or PE)
- A busy inpatient service (averaging 15-20 patients) of patients with PVD.
- Active, mature CTEPH program with multidisciplinary conferences for patient selection for pulmonary thromboendarterectomy or balloon pulmonary angioplasty
- Robust pulmonary embolism response team (PERT) directed by the PVD group, including AI-driven imaging and comprehensive follow up through a formal post-PE clinic.
- Invasive cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET)
- High-volume transplant center with >600 liver transplants, >300 lung transplants, and >250 heart transplants since 2020.
- Advanced mechanical support strategies for patients with end-stage PH peri-transplant.
- Large population of patients with rare and advanced lung diseases including LAM, PVOD, PCH, and PAP
- Very large population of patients with silicosis
- Growing population of patients with sickle cell disease with the recent opening of UCLA’s SCD clinic
- Transitions of care for adolescents with PVD
- Congenital heart disease patients (often co-managed with our adult congenital heart disease experts)
At the end of the 1-year fellowship, fellows are expected to:
- Participate in PVD and post-PE clinic at our primary site (requirements flexible).
- Serve on the inpatient PVD service at our primary and secondary site (UCLA-Santa Monica Hospital), acting as PVD attending in the latter part of the year (requirements flexible).
- Become independent managing complex PH patients including initiation and titration of parenteral therapies and referral for transplant evaluation.
- Attain complete independence performing and interpreting right heart catheterizations for the diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension (Minimum 100 RHCs required for graduation, current fellow is on track for >200).
- Gain experience in performing and interpreting pulmonary angiography.
- Obtain exposure to catheter-directed interventions for pulmonary embolism.
- Attain necessary expertise to interpret imaging in PVD, including V/Q, CT and echocardiographic imaging in patients with PH and PE.
- Participate in monthly CPET conferences to discuss interesting or complex invasive CPET results.
- Participate in regional and national conferences.
- Complete at least one research project and present results at a national meeting.
This fellowship is funded at the PGY-7/8 level with additional funds available for conference travel and book/educational monies. Fellows will be hired as Clinical Instructors in the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. Although not required, the opportunity exists for salary augmentation by covering ICU shifts.

Overview: The Yale Advanced Fellowship in Pulmonary Vascular Disease is a one-year clinical fellowship with the goal to prepare fellows to practice as experts in the care of the complex interactions between the pulmonary and cardiovascular systems that result in right heart dysfunction and failure. Our training program focuses on the evaluation and management of patients with diseases of the right heart system including pulmonary vascular disease, congenital heart disease, and end stage lung disease. Our overall program provides trainees with several unique clinical opportunities that are not readily available in most centers across the country and provides a more in-depth and focused training experience than what is provided in general pulmonary and critical care and cardiology training programs.
Objective and Curriculum: Our curriculum is structured to maximize a trainee’s responsibilities while gaining competency in evaluating and treated pulmonary vascular disease and right heart failure. This includes:
