The Pulmonary Hypertension Association is grateful to actor and rapper Awkwafina for introducing pulmonary hypertension to a nationwide audience.
Akwafina represented PHA Aug. 19 on “Who Wants To Be a Millionaire.” “Millionaire’ is the most-watched Wednesday night series this summer, with the previous episode reaching 4.4 million viewers, according to ABC.
Awkwafina, whose real name is Nora Lum, competed with Paul Fieg, who directed her in the movie “Jackpot.” The pair correctly answered eight questions.
Awkwafina was just 4 years old when her mother died of pulmonary hypertension in 1992. There were no FDA-approved medical treatments for PH until epoprostenol (Flolan) was approved in 1995.
This season of “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire,” hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, began July 22. PHA and other charities represented by celebrities will receive automatic donations from the show.
Awkwafina’s episode, along with the rest of the season, is available for streaming on Hulu.
