Beginning on World PH Day, May 5, more than 80 pulmonary hypertension organizations across the globe will participate in an awareness campaign to advocate for greater access to PH diagnosis, treatment and care. To support this effort, the Pulmonary Hypertension Association created a digital toolkit with easy-to-translate materials that you can use to amplify the campaign throughout May. The toolkit includes:

  1. Social media profile and cover images: Update your social media profiles using the 2025 World PH Day graphics.
  2. Shareable content: Post, share and repost World PH Day campaign messages, graphics and resources included in the kit.
  3. News release template: Customize a press release template to promote your organization’s involvement in World PH Day.

Help Primary Care Teams Spot PH Sooner

PH symptoms often resemble those of other lung diseases, which can delay diagnosis for years. To help address this, PHA and the American Lung Association created “Guidance to the Guidelines”—a U.S.-specific resource that turns complex guidelines into clear steps for primary care teams. Share it with your doctor or colleagues to help more people get the right care, sooner.

Sometimes It’s PH

Facebook and LinkedIn: At diagnosis, 75% of patients already have advanced pulmonary hypertension. Early symptoms, such as shortness of breath, fatigue and chest pain, are often mistaken for more common conditions like asthma or anxiety. Sometimes, it’s pulmonary hypertension. #WorldPHDay2025 raises awareness of the challenges in recognizing PH and promotes early screening and access to specialized care. #WorldPHDay2025 #SometimesItsPH

Schistosomiasis

Facebook and LinkedIn: Schistosomiasis, a widespread parasitic disease, is the most common cause of pulmonary arterial hypertension in the developing world. Parasite eggs obstruct pulmonary arteries, which can cause a severe form of PH that affects about 20 million people worldwide, primarily in Africa and Asia. It’s most frequently contracted through fresh water for drinking, bathing or washing. #WorldPHDay2025

Lung Disease

Facebook and LinkedIn: Those who live at higher altitudes could be at risk for developing Group 3 pulmonary hypertension from a shortage of oxygen. More than 140 million people worldwide live 10,000 feet (3,048 meters) or more above sea level. Living at those heights can constrict blood vessels, increasing strain on the right heart over time. #WorldPHDay2025

Facebook and LinkedIn: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease restricts air flow in the lungs, making it difficult to breathe. This is mostly caused by exposure to irritants that damage the lungs and airways. Pulmonary hypertension is a common complication of COPD due to the damage and changes COPD can cause to pulmonary artery vessels. # WorldPHDay2025

Facebook and LinkedIn: Sleep apnea is a potentially serious disorder that causes people to repeatedly stop and start breathing as they sleep. This can cause a shortage of oxygen or hypoxia in the lungs. Pulmonary pressures often worsen during sleep, making pulmonary hypertension a common complication of sleep apnea. #WorldPHDay2025

CTEPH

Facebook and LinkedIn: A pulmonary embolism is a blood clot that gets trapped in the lungs. People who have a history of PEs are at greater risk of developing more clots. New clots can cause high blood pressure in the lungs, or chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. #WorldPHDay2025

Sarcoidosis

Facebook and LinkedIn: Pulmonary hypertension is a serious complication of sarcoidosis, which has no known cause. The disease makes the immune system overact and develop clusters of inflamed tissue in various organs, including the lungs. Sarcoidosis most frequently affects African Americans, with women at higher risk. Sarcoidosis patients who have persistent, labored breathing should be screened for PH. #WorldPHDay2025
