Pathlight
Pathlight magazine is PHA’s quarterly member magazine, available in print and online.
Pathlight magazine is the Pulmonary Hypertension Association’s longest-running member benefit. Pathlight began as a mimeographed newsletter in 1990, one year before PHA was established as the United Patients Association for Pulmonary Hypertension.
Our founders named Pathlight for their goal “to light the way to awareness.” Pat Paton, Judy Simpson, Teresa Knazik and Dorothy Olson printed 50 copies at Kinko’s and mailed them to every PH patient they knew of. Knazik was the first Pathlight editor.
The three-page, stapled-together publication had an eager readership. Pathlight connected people in an age before social media and FDA-approved PH treatments. The publication helped people feel less isolated and included tips to help patients keep their spirits up. It also included a short list of people who recently had died, which continues today as “Passages”.
Pathlight reaches thousands of people today, with patient and caregiver profiles, first-person stories, health tips from people with PH and PH-treating professionals, scientific information and events listings.
